CV701
- External number assignment is not possible for group & ?The SAP error message CV701, which states "External number assignment is not possible for group &," typically occurs when there is an attempt to assign an external number range to a document or object that is not configured to allow external number assignment. This error is often encountered in the context of document management, such as when creating or processing financial documents, material documents, or other transactional records.
Cause:
- Number Range Configuration: The number range for the specific document type or object is set to "internal" rather than "external." This means that the system is configured to generate numbers automatically rather than allowing users to input their own numbers.
- Document Type Settings: The document type being used may not be configured to allow external number assignment.
- Authorization Issues: The user may not have the necessary authorizations to use external number assignment for the specified group.
Solution:
Check Number Range Configuration:
- Go to the transaction code SNRO (Number Range Objects).
- Find the relevant number range object associated with the document type or group in question.
- Check the settings to see if the number range is set to "internal" or "external." If it is set to "internal," you may need to change it to "external" if that is the desired configuration.
Adjust Document Type Settings:
- Use transaction code OBA7 to check the settings for the document type.
- Ensure that the document type is configured to allow external number assignment.
User Authorizations:
- Verify that the user has the necessary authorizations to perform actions related to external number assignment. This may involve checking user roles and profiles in transaction code PFCG.
Consult with SAP Basis or Functional Team:
- If you do not have the necessary permissions to change the configuration, consult with your SAP Basis or functional team to make the required adjustments.
