  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message CTE_FND106 - Logical system name is used by another system. Please use a unique one. ?

The SAP error message CTE_FND106 indicates that the logical system name you are trying to use is already in use by another system in the SAP landscape. Logical system names are unique identifiers for different systems (like development, testing, and production) within an SAP environment, and they must not be duplicated.

    Cause:

    1. Duplicate Logical System Name: The logical system name you are trying to create or modify is already assigned to another system in the SAP landscape.
    2. Configuration Error: There may be a misconfiguration in the system settings where the logical system names are not properly managed.
    3. Transport Directory Issues: If you are working with transports, the logical system name might be referenced incorrectly in the transport directory.

    Solution:

    1. Check Existing Logical Systems:

      • Go to transaction SE03 (Transport Organizer Tools) or SE06 (System Change Option) to view the existing logical systems.
      • You can also check in transaction BD54 (Maintain Logical System) to see the list of logical systems defined in your SAP system.
    2. Choose a Unique Name:

      • If the logical system name you want to use is already taken, you will need to select a different, unique name that adheres to your organization’s naming conventions.
    3. Delete or Modify Existing Logical System:

      • If the existing logical system is no longer needed, you can delete it or modify it to free up the name. Be cautious with this approach, as it may affect other configurations or systems.
    4. Check Transport Directory:

      • If you are working with transports, ensure that the transport directory does not have any references to the logical system name you are trying to use.
    5. Consult Documentation:

      • Review your organization’s documentation or guidelines regarding logical system naming conventions to ensure compliance.

    Related Information:

    • Logical System Naming Conventions: Typically, logical system names follow a specific format, such as CLNTXXX where XXX represents the client number.
    • Transport Management: Understanding how logical systems interact with the transport management system (TMS) can help prevent conflicts.
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any specific issues or updates related to logical system management that may apply to your version of SAP.

If you continue to experience issues after following these steps, consider reaching out to your SAP Basis team or consulting SAP support for further assistance.
