Message number: 011
Message text: & cannot be used as alternative UoM; resulting unit would be too long
You have entered an alternative unit of measure which, when converted
to the base unit of measure, would be too long to fit into the
corresponding field.
<ZH>Example</>
You define <LS>G</> as the base unit of measure, <LS>KG</> as the first
alternative unit of measure, and <LS>TO</> as the second alternative
unit of measure. According to the table, 1,000 g = 1 kg, and 1,000 kg =
1 t. As a result, 1,000,000 g equals 1 t, but this value is too long to
fit into the corresponding field.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
Reset the alternative unit of measure.

- & cannot be used as alternative UoM; resulting unit would be too long ?The SAP error message COM_PRODUCT_UNIT011 indicates that there is an issue with the unit of measure (UoM) configuration for a product. Specifically, it states that the unit of measure cannot be used as an alternative because the resulting unit would be too long. This typically occurs when the system is trying to convert or use a unit of measure that exceeds the allowed character limit or format.
Cause:
- Unit of Measure Configuration: The UoM defined for the product may have a long description or format that exceeds the system's limitations.
- Alternative UoM Settings: The alternative UoM settings for the product may not be correctly configured, leading to conflicts when trying to use them.
- Data Entry Errors: There may be errors in the data entry for the UoM, such as incorrect characters or formats that are not recognized by the system.
- System Limitations: SAP has specific limitations on the length and format of UoMs, and if these are exceeded, the error will occur.
Solution:
Check UoM Configuration:
- Go to the UoM configuration in SAP (Transaction Code: CUNI).
- Review the UoM settings for the product and ensure that they comply with the system's character limits.
Adjust Alternative UoM:
- If you are trying to set an alternative UoM, ensure that it is correctly defined and does not exceed the character limit.
- You may need to remove or modify the alternative UoM if it is causing the conflict.
Review Product Master Data:
- Check the product master data (Transaction Code: MM03) to ensure that the UoM is correctly assigned and that there are no discrepancies.
Consult Documentation:
- Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidelines on UoM configurations and limitations.
Testing:
- After making changes, test the configuration by attempting to use the UoM again to ensure that the error has been resolved.
