Message text: You cannot make an assignment to make-to-order stock
The component cannot be allocated to an individual stock because
make-to-order production and engineer-to-order production cannot be
executed with this order.
A possible cause is that you are trying to create an order with
reference to a sales-order/project, where an account assignment to a
sales order/project is not allowed in the settlement profile that is
assigned to the chosen order type. This is inconsistant.
The following responses are possible:
Order processing is cancelled.
The system resets the special stock indicator back to the original
value.
Choose another order type.

- You cannot make an assignment to make-to-order stock ?The SAP error message CO684, "You cannot make an assignment to make-to-order stock," typically occurs in the context of production planning and inventory management when there is an attempt to assign stock that is designated for make-to-order (MTO) production to a different purpose or stock type.
Cause:
- Make-to-Order Stock: The stock in question is specifically reserved for make-to-order production. This means it is tied to a specific customer order and cannot be reassigned to other production orders or stock types.
- Incorrect Assignment Attempt: The error may arise when trying to assign MTO stock to a different production order, transfer, or process that is not compatible with MTO stock.
- Configuration Issues: There may be configuration settings in the system that restrict the movement or assignment of MTO stock.
Solution:
- Check Stock Type: Ensure that you are not trying to assign MTO stock to a different type of order or stock. MTO stock should only be used for the specific customer order it was created for.
- Review Assignment Logic: If you are trying to assign stock, verify that the assignment is valid and that the stock is not already committed to another order.
- Use Correct Stock: If you need stock for a different purpose, consider using stock that is not designated as MTO. You may need to create or procure additional stock for the new requirement.
- Consult Configuration: If you believe the assignment should be valid, consult with your SAP configuration team to review the settings related to MTO stock and assignments. There may be specific rules or settings that need to be adjusted.
- Check Order Status: Ensure that the make-to-order production order is in a status that allows for stock assignment. If the order is completed or closed, you may not be able to make any changes.
