- Deletion not possible, there are still valid assignments ?The SAP error message CN644 ("Deletion not possible, there are still valid assignments") typically occurs in the context of project management or controlling when you attempt to delete a project, work breakdown structure (WBS) element, or network that still has valid assignments or dependencies associated with it. This can happen in various modules, including Project System (PS) and Controlling (CO).
Cause:
The error indicates that the object you are trying to delete has existing assignments that prevent its deletion. These assignments could include:
- Assigned Costs: There may be costs or budget allocations that are still linked to the project or WBS element.
- Dependencies: Other projects, WBS elements, or networks may depend on the one you are trying to delete.
- Status: The project or WBS element may be in a status that does not allow deletion (e.g., if it is still active or has been partially completed).
- Documents: There may be documents or transactions (like purchase orders, sales orders, etc.) that are still linked to the project.
Solution:
To resolve the CN644 error, you can follow these steps:
Check Assignments: Review the assignments linked to the project or WBS element. You can do this by navigating to the relevant transaction (e.g., CJ03 for WBS elements) and checking for any associated costs, budgets, or dependencies.
Remove Dependencies: If there are dependent objects, you may need to delete or reassign them before you can delete the main object.
Change Status: If the project or WBS element is in a status that prevents deletion, consider changing its status to a more appropriate one (e.g., "Completed" or "Closed") if applicable.
Delete Related Documents: If there are documents linked to the project, you may need to delete or archive them first.
Use Transaction Codes: Use transaction codes like CJ20N (Project Builder) or CJ02 (Change WBS) to manage and review the project structure and assignments.
Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidance on managing projects and WBS elements.
