  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message CN377 - Activity &1 in network &2 has already been released. Cannot delete ?

The SAP error message CN377 indicates that you are trying to delete an activity in a network that has already been released. In SAP Project System (PS), once a network or its activities are released, they are considered to be in a state where they can be processed (e.g., for actual postings, confirmations, etc.). Deleting a released activity is not allowed to maintain data integrity and ensure that all transactions related to that activity are properly accounted for.

    Cause:

    1. Released Status: The activity you are trying to delete has been released, meaning it is in a state where it is actively being used in the system.
    2. Data Integrity: SAP enforces rules to prevent the deletion of data that could affect financial reporting or project tracking.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you have a few options:

    1. Reverse the Release:

      • If you need to delete the activity, you must first reverse the release status. This can typically be done using the transaction code CN22 (Change Network) or CN24 (Change Activity).
      • Navigate to the network and activity in question, and change the status back to "Not Released" (or "Created").
    2. Check Dependencies:

      • Ensure that there are no dependencies or transactions (like confirmations, costs, etc.) that are linked to the activity. If there are, you may need to reverse or delete those transactions first.
    3. Consult with Your Team:

      • If you are unsure about reversing the release or if it could impact other processes, consult with your project manager or SAP PS consultant to understand the implications.
    4. Alternative Actions:

      • If deletion is not possible, consider marking the activity as "inactive" or adjusting its parameters instead of deleting it.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:

      • CN22: Change Network
      • CN24: Change Activity
      • CN41: Display Network
      • CN42: Display Activity
    • SAP Documentation: Refer to the SAP Help Portal or your organization's SAP documentation for more detailed instructions on managing network activities and their statuses.

    • User Authorizations: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to change the status of the network or activity.

By following these steps, you should be able to address the CN377 error and manage your network activities effectively.
