Message text: Division by zero in formula &4
Work center &V3& is assigned to routing/operation &V1& in plant &V2&
with formula &V4&.
The system calculates the amount of activity anticipated for each
activity type on the basis of the formula in the work center and the
default value in the operation. This activity is valuated with the
prices in Cost Center Accounting in order to determine the planned
costs for the operation.
While calculating the activity quantity, formula &V4& attempted to
divide by zero.
The system cannot calculate the planned costs for operation &V1&.
Check the master data for work center &V3&. Specify a valid formula
when assigning the work center to a cost center.
Select a formula that does not result in division by zero.

CK521
- Division by zero in formula &4 ?The SAP error message CK521, which states "Division by zero in formula &4," typically occurs in the context of cost calculations in the SAP Controlling (CO) module, particularly in Product Costing (CK). This error indicates that a calculation is attempting to divide a value by zero, which is mathematically undefined.
Causes:
- Missing Data: The most common cause is that one of the components in the formula used for the calculation is missing or has a value of zero. This could be due to missing master data, such as cost elements or activity types.
- Incorrect Formula Configuration: The formula used for calculating costs may be incorrectly configured, leading to a situation where a division by zero occurs.
- Data Entry Errors: Manual data entry errors can lead to zero values being entered where they should not be.
- Costing Variants: The costing variant being used may not be set up correctly, leading to missing or incorrect values in the calculation.
Solutions:
- Check Master Data: Verify that all relevant master data (materials, cost centers, activity types, etc.) is correctly maintained and that there are no missing entries.
- Review the Formula: Examine the formula that is causing the error. Ensure that all components of the formula are correctly defined and that there are no divisions by zero.
- Validate Input Data: Check the input data for the costing run. Ensure that all necessary data is populated and that there are no zero values where they should not be.
- Costing Variant Configuration: Review the configuration of the costing variant being used. Ensure that it is set up correctly and that all necessary parameters are defined.
- Debugging: If the issue persists, consider using debugging tools in SAP to trace the calculation and identify where the zero value is being introduced.
