  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message CK392 - Cost estimate(s) found for another costing variant ?

The SAP error message CK392 indicates that there are cost estimates available for a material in a different costing variant than the one you are currently trying to use. This typically occurs during the cost estimate creation or when trying to display or change a cost estimate.

    Cause:

    1. Different Costing Variants: The error arises when you attempt to create or modify a cost estimate for a material, but there are existing cost estimates for that material under a different costing variant.
    2. Costing Variant Configuration: The costing variant you are using may not be set up to allow for the creation of cost estimates if there are already existing estimates under another variant.
    3. Material Master Settings: The material master may have settings that restrict the creation of new cost estimates if there are existing ones.

    Solution:

    1. Check Existing Cost Estimates: Use transaction CK13N (Display Cost Estimate) to check if there are existing cost estimates for the material in question. If there are, you may need to decide whether to use the existing estimate or create a new one under the appropriate costing variant.
    2. Use the Correct Costing Variant: Ensure that you are using the correct costing variant that aligns with the existing cost estimates. You can change the costing variant in the cost estimate creation screen.
    3. Delete or Adjust Existing Estimates: If necessary, you can delete or adjust the existing cost estimates if they are no longer relevant. This can be done using transaction CK14N (Delete Cost Estimate) or by adjusting the estimates as needed.
    4. Consult Configuration: If you are unsure about the costing variant settings, consult with your SAP configuration team to ensure that the costing variants are set up correctly and that they allow for the creation of new estimates as needed.

    Related Information:

    • Costing Variants: Costing variants in SAP define how cost estimates are calculated and can include various parameters such as valuation methods, overhead calculations, and more.
    • Costing Run: If you are performing a costing run, ensure that the costing variant used is appropriate for the materials being processed.
    • Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help files for detailed information on costing variants and cost estimate processes.

If the issue persists after checking these aspects, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP support team or refer to SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to this error message.
