  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message BV204 - You are authorized to change the &1 users ?

The SAP error message BV204, which states "You are authorized to change the &1 users," typically occurs when a user attempts to perform an action that requires authorization to change user data, but they do not have the necessary permissions.

    Cause:

    1. Authorization Issues: The user does not have the required authorization to change the specified user(s). This could be due to missing roles or authorizations in their user profile.
    2. User Type Restrictions: The user may be trying to change a user type that they are not allowed to modify (e.g., trying to change a system user or a user with specific roles).
    3. Configuration Settings: There may be configuration settings in the system that restrict certain users from making changes to others.

    Solution:

    1. Check User Authorizations:

      • Use transaction code SU53 immediately after the error occurs to check the authorization check that failed. This will provide insight into which specific authorization object is missing.
      • Review the user's roles and authorizations in transaction SU01 or PFCG to ensure they have the necessary permissions to change user data.
    2. Assign Missing Roles:

      • If the user lacks the necessary roles, work with your SAP security team to assign the appropriate roles that include the required authorizations for user management.
    3. Review User Type:

      • Ensure that the user is not trying to change a user type that is restricted. For example, some users may have special roles that prevent them from being modified by others.
    4. Consult with Security Team:

      • If you are unsure about the required authorizations or how to assign them, consult with your SAP security team or administrator for assistance.
    5. System Configuration:

      • Check if there are any specific configuration settings in the system that might be preventing the change. This could involve reviewing user management settings or security policies.

    Related Information:

    • Authorization Objects: Common authorization objects related to user management include S_USER_AUTH, S_USER_PRO, and S_USER_AGR. Ensure that the user has the necessary authorizations for these objects.
