Message class: BT - Background processing messages
Message number: 856
Message text: All PBT resources are currently busy
The system tried to initialize the environment for processing parallel
RFCs using function module SPBT_INITIALIZE. Here it was established
that there are currently no resources in the system that are necessary
for processing parallel RFCs. This is a temporary problem.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
There are several ways to solve this problem:
Wait until the resources are released by other programs
Increase the number of dialog work processes on the application servers
that process the parallel RFCs
Install additional servers in your system or include new servers in the
server groups for parallel RFCs (see Transaction RZ12).

- All PBT resources are currently busy ?The SAP error message BT856, which states "All PBT resources are currently busy," typically occurs in the context of SAP Business Workflow or Business Process Management (BPM) when there are no available resources to process a particular task or request. This can happen for various reasons, including high system load, resource contention, or configuration issues.
Causes:
- High Load on the System: If there are too many concurrent processes or tasks running, the available resources may be exhausted.
- Resource Contention: Other processes may be holding onto the resources that your process needs, leading to a bottleneck.
- Configuration Issues: Incorrect settings in the workflow or BPM configuration can lead to inefficient resource allocation.
- Long-Running Processes: If there are long-running tasks that are not completing, they may occupy resources for an extended period.
- Insufficient Resources: The system may not have enough allocated resources (e.g., memory, CPU) to handle the workload.
Solutions:
- Monitor System Performance: Use transaction codes like ST03N or SM66 to monitor system performance and identify any bottlenecks or long-running processes.
- Increase Resources: If the system is consistently under heavy load, consider increasing the hardware resources (CPU, memory) or optimizing the existing resources.
- Optimize Workflows: Review and optimize the workflows to ensure they are efficient and do not hold onto resources longer than necessary.
- Adjust Configuration: Check the configuration settings for the workflow or BPM to ensure they are set up correctly for your workload.
- Restart Processes: If specific processes are stuck or taking too long, consider restarting them to free up resources.
- Load Balancing: If applicable, implement load balancing to distribute the workload more evenly across available resources.
