  • What causes this issue?

You have changed the exponents for a dimension. These changes overlap
the exponents of dimension &V1&. Each combination of exponents must be
unique and reflects a physical dimension.
    Examples:
All units of length are based on a dimension with a 1 in the exponent
length. The basis unit (SI unit) is Meter.
All units of time are based on a dimension with a 1 in the exponent
time. The basis unit (SI unit) is second.
Units of velocity are based on a dimension with a 1 in the exponent
length and a -1 in the exponent time. The basis unit (SI unit) is
    Meter/second.
All dimensions required can be derived from these seven basis
    dimensions(exponents).

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message BM008 - Overlap with dimension & is not permitted ?

The SAP error message BM008, which states "Overlap with dimension & is not permitted," typically occurs in the context of SAP Business Planning and Consolidation (BPC) or SAP BW (Business Warehouse) when there is an issue with overlapping time periods or dimensions in a planning or budgeting scenario.

    Cause:

    1. Overlapping Time Periods: This error often arises when there are overlapping time periods defined in your planning model. For example, if you are trying to enter data for a specific month, but there is already data entered for a range that includes that month, the system will throw this error.

    2. Dimension Conflicts: The error can also occur if there are conflicting entries in the dimensions being used. For instance, if you have defined a dimension that does not allow overlapping entries, and you attempt to enter data that conflicts with existing data in that dimension.

    3. Incorrect Configuration: Sometimes, the configuration of the planning model or the dimensions may not be set up correctly, leading to this error.

    Solution:

    1. Check Time Periods: Review the time periods you are trying to enter data for. Ensure that there are no overlaps with existing data. If there are overlaps, you may need to adjust the periods or remove the conflicting entries.

    2. Review Dimension Settings: Check the settings for the dimensions involved. Ensure that the dimensions are configured correctly and that there are no restrictions that would prevent the entry of data.

    3. Data Entry Validation: Before entering data, validate the entries against existing data to ensure there are no conflicts. This can often be done through a data validation process or by reviewing the existing data in the system.

    4. Consult Documentation: Refer to the SAP documentation for your specific version of BPC or BW for more detailed guidance on handling dimension overlaps and configuration settings.

    5. Seek Help from SAP Support: If the issue persists and you cannot identify the cause, consider reaching out to SAP support for assistance. They can provide more specific guidance based on your system configuration and the context of the error.

    Related Information:

    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific error or provide additional troubleshooting steps.
