Message type: E = Error
Message class: B1 - ALE group messages
Message number: 874
Message text: You cannot modify the hierarchy. Refer to the long text.
For the BAPI (&v1&, &v2&) the indicator "release" for the associated
IDoc type &v3& of the generated ALE/IDoc interface is active.
You can assume that the ALE/IDoc interface has already been delivered.
The dependencies of the BAPI table parameters can no longer be changed
as this would affect downward compatibility.
Due to compatibility problems a new BAPI with the new BAPI table
parameter hierarchy must be created. Then the ALE/IDoc interface must
also be generated.
This measure is also necessary when only one optional table parameter
is added to the BAPI. If these optional table parameters affect the
hierarchy, the BAPI has been modified incompatibly to all its
predecessors.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

Refer to the long text," typically occurs in the context of working with hierarchical data structures in SAP, such as those found in SAP Business Warehouse (BW) or SAP Controlling (CO) modules. This error indicates that the system has restrictions on modifying the hierarchy due to certain conditions.
Cause:
- Hierarchy Locking: The hierarchy you are trying to modify may be locked for editing. This can happen if the hierarchy is currently being used in a report or if it is in a state that does not allow changes.
- Authorization Issues: The user may not have the necessary authorizations to modify the hierarchy.
- Hierarchy Status: The hierarchy might be in a status that does not allow modifications, such as being marked as "released" or "finalized."
- Technical Restrictions: There may be technical restrictions in place that prevent changes to the hierarchy, such as system settings or configuration.
Solution:
- Check Hierarchy Status: Verify the status of the hierarchy you are trying to modify. If it is locked or finalized, you may need to unlock it or change its status before making modifications.
- Review Authorizations: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to modify the hierarchy. You may need to contact your system administrator to check your user roles and permissions.
- Close Open Sessions: If the hierarchy is being used in an open session (like a report or transaction), close those sessions and try again.
- Consult Long Text: The error message suggests referring to the long text for more details. You can usually find this by clicking on the error message or checking the documentation associated with it. This may provide specific guidance related to your situation.
- System Configuration: If the issue persists, consult with your SAP Basis or technical team to check for any system configuration settings that might be affecting hierarchy modifications.
