  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message AY210 - Tab layout inconsistent with screen layout ?

The SAP error message AY210, which states "Tab layout inconsistent with screen layout," typically occurs when there is a mismatch between the tab layout configuration and the screen layout in a transaction or program. This can happen in various SAP modules, particularly in the context of customizing screens or when using specific transactions that involve tabbed interfaces.

    Cause:

    1. Configuration Mismatch: The tab layout defined in the screen configuration does not match the fields or elements defined in the screen layout.
    2. Changes in Screen Layout: If changes were made to the screen layout (e.g., adding or removing fields) without corresponding updates to the tab layout, this inconsistency can arise.
    3. Transport Issues: If the screen layout or tab layout was transported from one system to another (e.g., from development to production) without proper synchronization, inconsistencies may occur.
    4. User Authorizations: Sometimes, user authorizations can affect the visibility of certain fields, leading to perceived inconsistencies.

    Solution:

    1. Check Configuration: Review the configuration settings for both the tab layout and the screen layout. Ensure that they are aligned and that all fields in the tab layout are present in the screen layout.
    2. Adjust Tab Layout: If necessary, modify the tab layout to include or exclude fields as needed to match the screen layout.
    3. Transport Consistency: If the issue arose after a transport, verify that all related objects were transported correctly and that there are no missing components.
    4. User Roles and Authorizations: Check the user roles and authorizations to ensure that the user has access to all necessary fields. Adjust roles if needed.
    5. Debugging: If the issue persists, consider debugging the transaction to identify where the inconsistency is occurring. This may involve looking at the screen attributes in the ABAP code.
    6. SAP Notes: Check the SAP Support Portal for any relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific error or provide patches or updates.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: You may need to use transaction codes like SE80 (Object Navigator) or SE41 (Menu Painter) to check and modify the screen and tab layouts.
