If the group asset has not been posted, but received values during the

transaction for changing old group assets. (You may need to temporarily
remove the setting of the indicator "recalculate depreciation in past
years" in certain depreciation areas in company code &v3& . This is
done in FI-AA Customizing.) Then physically delete the group asset.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message AY162 - Deleting is not possible. The group asset already has values. ?

The SAP error message AY162, which states "Deleting is not possible. The group asset already has values," typically occurs when you attempt to delete a group asset that has associated values or transactions. This can happen in the context of asset accounting when there are existing transactions, such as acquisitions, retirements, or depreciation postings, linked to the group asset.

    Cause:

    1. Existing Transactions: The group asset has one or more transactions recorded against it, such as acquisitions, retirements, or depreciation.
    2. Dependencies: There may be dependencies on the group asset from other assets or financial records.
    3. Configuration Issues: The asset may be configured in a way that prevents deletion due to business rules or settings in the system.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can take the following steps:

    1. Check for Transactions:

      • Use transaction codes like AW01N (Asset Explorer) to check if there are any transactions associated with the group asset.
      • Review the asset history to identify any postings that may prevent deletion.
    2. Clear Transactions:

      • If there are transactions that can be reversed or deleted, you may need to reverse them first. This could involve:
        • Retiring the asset if it is no longer needed.
        • Posting adjustments or corrections as necessary.
    3. Use the Correct Deletion Method:

      • If the asset is no longer needed, consider using the retirement process instead of direct deletion. This ensures that all financial records are properly maintained.
    4. Consult with Your SAP Administrator:

      • If you are unsure about the transactions or how to proceed, consult with your SAP administrator or finance team. They can provide guidance on the proper procedures for handling group assets.
    5. Check Configuration Settings:

      • Review the configuration settings in the Asset Accounting module to ensure that there are no restrictions preventing the deletion of group assets.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as:
      • AW01N: Asset Explorer
