  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message AIST006 - Different closed fiscal years in depreciation areas ?

The SAP error message AIST006, which states "Different closed fiscal years in depreciation areas," typically occurs in the context of asset accounting when there is a mismatch in the closed fiscal years across different depreciation areas for an asset. This can happen when one depreciation area has been closed for a particular fiscal year while another depreciation area has not, leading to inconsistencies in the asset's financial data.

    Cause:

    1. Different Fiscal Year Closures: The primary cause of this error is that the fiscal year has been closed in one or more depreciation areas, but not in others. Each depreciation area can have its own fiscal year closure settings.
    2. Configuration Issues: There may be configuration issues in the asset accounting settings that lead to discrepancies in how fiscal years are managed across different depreciation areas.
    3. Data Entry Errors: Manual data entry errors or incorrect settings during asset creation or modification can also lead to this issue.

    Solution:

To resolve the AIST006 error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check Fiscal Year Closure:

      • Go to the transaction code OB52 (Change View "Periods" Overview) to check the fiscal year settings for each depreciation area.
      • Ensure that the fiscal year is closed consistently across all depreciation areas for the asset in question.
    2. Open the Fiscal Year:

      • If necessary, you can open the fiscal year in the depreciation area that is still open. This can be done in the same transaction (OB52) by adjusting the periods.
    3. Review Asset Configuration:

      • Check the asset master data (transaction code AS03) to ensure that the depreciation areas are correctly configured and that there are no discrepancies in the settings.
    4. Consult with Finance Team:

      • If you are unsure about the implications of opening a closed fiscal year, consult with your finance team or SAP consultant to ensure that it aligns with your organization's accounting policies.
    5. Repost Transactions:

      • If transactions have been posted incorrectly due to this error, you may need to reverse or adjust those postings to ensure consistency across depreciation areas.

    Related Information:

    • Depreciation Areas: In SAP, depreciation areas are used to manage different accounting principles (e.g., local GAAP, IFRS) and can have different fiscal year settings.
    • Asset Accounting Configuration: Understanding the configuration of asset accounting in SAP is crucial for managing depreciation areas and fiscal year closures effectively.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may provide additional guidance or patches related to this error message.
