AD743
- Max. number of temporary programs reached (try again later) ?The SAP error message AD743, which states "Max. number of temporary programs reached (try again later)," typically occurs when the system has reached the limit of temporary programs that can be created in the SAP environment. Temporary programs are often used for various tasks, including background processing and report execution.
Cause:
- Limit Reached: Each SAP system has a predefined limit on the number of temporary programs that can be created. When this limit is reached, new requests for temporary programs cannot be processed.
- Long-Running Processes: If there are long-running background jobs or reports that are not completing, they may be holding onto temporary program slots.
- System Configuration: The configuration settings for temporary programs may be set too low for the current workload of the system.
Solution:
- Wait and Retry: The simplest solution is to wait for some time and then try again. Temporary programs may be released as background jobs complete.
- Check Background Jobs: Use transaction code SM37 to check for any long-running or stuck background jobs. If you find any, consider terminating them if they are no longer needed.
- Increase Limit: If the issue persists and is frequent, consider increasing the limit for temporary programs. This can be done by adjusting the profile parameters in the SAP system. The relevant parameter is
rdisp/wp_no_btc
(for background work processes). Consult with your SAP Basis administrator for assistance with this.- System Monitoring: Regularly monitor the system for performance issues and background job statuses to prevent reaching the limit in the future.
- Cleanup: If there are temporary programs that are no longer needed, they can be cleaned up. This is usually handled by the system automatically, but in some cases, manual intervention may be required.
