  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message 7Q705 - At least one layout exceeds maximum list width of 255 ?

The SAP error message 7Q705 indicates that at least one layout in your report or output exceeds the maximum allowable width of 255 characters. This typically occurs in SAP when you are trying to display or print a report that has a layout with too many columns or fields, causing the total width of the layout to exceed the limit.

    Cause:

    1. Excessive Columns: The report or layout you are trying to generate has too many columns or fields defined, leading to a total width greater than 255 characters.
    2. Field Lengths: Individual fields in the layout may have been defined with lengths that, when summed together, exceed the limit.
    3. Custom Layouts: If you are using a custom layout or report, it may not have been designed with the width limitations in mind.

    Solution:

    1. Reduce the Number of Columns: Review the layout and try to reduce the number of columns or fields being displayed. Consider whether all columns are necessary for the report.
    2. Adjust Field Lengths: If possible, reduce the length of individual fields to ensure that the total width remains within the limit.
    3. Use Multiple Layouts: If the information is essential, consider splitting the report into multiple layouts or pages to accommodate the data without exceeding the width limit.
    4. Check Standard Layouts: If you are using a standard SAP layout, check if there are alternative layouts that fit within the width constraints.
    5. Modify the Report: If you have access to the report's design, you may need to modify it to ensure compliance with the width restrictions.
