  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message 62866 - Asset already assigned to property '&' ?

The SAP error message 62866, which states "Asset already assigned to property '&'", typically occurs in the context of asset accounting when you attempt to assign an asset to a property that it is already linked to. This can happen in various scenarios, such as during asset transfers, reassignments, or when trying to create a new assignment for an asset that is already associated with a specific property.

    Cause:

    1. Duplicate Assignment: The asset you are trying to assign is already linked to the specified property.
    2. Incorrect Transaction: You may be using the wrong transaction code or process that does not allow for reassigning an asset to the same property.
    3. Data Integrity Issues: There may be inconsistencies in the asset master data or property records.

    Solution:

    1. Check Existing Assignments: Verify the current assignments of the asset in question. You can do this by checking the asset master data (transaction code AS03) to see if it is already assigned to the property.
    2. Remove Existing Assignment: If you need to reassign the asset, you may need to first remove the existing assignment. This can typically be done through the appropriate transaction (e.g., AS02 for changing asset data).
    3. Use Correct Transaction: Ensure you are using the correct transaction for the operation you are trying to perform. For example, if you are trying to transfer an asset, make sure you are using the correct transfer transaction.
    4. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or your organization's guidelines for asset management to ensure you are following the correct procedures.
    5. Contact Support: If you are unable to resolve the issue, consider reaching out to your SAP support team or consulting with an SAP expert for further assistance.
