  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message 60103 - Rental unit "& & &" currently being processed by & ?

The SAP error message 60103, which states "Rental unit '& & &' currently being processed by &," typically occurs in the context of managing rental units in SAP Real Estate Management (RE-FX) or similar modules. This error indicates that the rental unit you are trying to access or modify is currently locked by another user or process.

    Cause:

    1. Concurrent Access: Another user or transaction is currently processing the rental unit, which prevents you from making changes.
    2. Long-running Transactions: A transaction that takes a long time to complete may hold a lock on the rental unit.
    3. System Locking Mechanism: SAP uses a locking mechanism to prevent data inconsistencies. If a rental unit is being edited or viewed by another user, it will be locked for others.

    Solution:

    1. Wait and Retry: If the rental unit is being processed by another user, the simplest solution is to wait for that user to complete their transaction and then try again.
    2. Identify the Lock: Use transaction code SM12 to check for locks on the rental unit. You can see which user or process is holding the lock.
    3. Contact the User: If you identify the user who is holding the lock, you can contact them to see if they can release the lock or complete their transaction.
    4. Release the Lock: If necessary and if you have the appropriate authorizations, you can manually release the lock in transaction SM12. However, this should be done with caution, as it may lead to data inconsistencies if the other user is still processing the rental unit.
    5. Check for Background Jobs: Sometimes, background jobs may also hold locks. Check transaction SM37 to see if any background jobs are running that might be affecting the rental unit.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as:
      • SM12: To view and manage locks.
      • SM37: To monitor background jobs.
      • SE11: To check the database table structure if needed.
    • User Training: Ensure that users are trained on how to properly access and release rental units to minimize locking issues.
    • System Performance: If locking issues are frequent, consider reviewing system performance and transaction handling to optimize processing times.

If the problem persists after trying these solutions, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP Basis team or technical support for further investigation.
