- Order long text is overwritten by the long text from the master recipe ?The SAP error message 40120, which states "Order long text is overwritten by the long text from the master recipe," typically occurs in the context of production orders or process orders in SAP. This message indicates that the long text associated with a production order is being replaced by the long text defined in the master recipe. Here’s a breakdown of the cause, potential solutions, and related information:
Cause:
- Master Recipe Configuration: The master recipe has long text defined, and when a production order is created from this recipe, the system pulls the long text from the master recipe, overwriting any long text that may have been manually entered in the production order.
- Order Type Settings: The settings for the order type may be configured to allow the long text from the master recipe to take precedence over any text entered in the order.
- Text Management Settings: The text management settings in the system may dictate that the long text from the master recipe is always used when creating orders.
Solutions:
- Review Master Recipe: Check the long text in the master recipe. If the text is not needed or should not overwrite the order text, consider modifying or removing it.
- Adjust Order Type Settings: If applicable, review the configuration for the order type in the SAP system. You may need to adjust the settings to prevent the master recipe's long text from overwriting the order's long text.
- Manual Entry: If you need to retain specific long text in the order, you may need to enter it after the order is created, but be aware that it may still be overwritten if the order is reprocessed or if the master recipe is updated.
- Custom Development: If the standard behavior does not meet your business requirements, consider discussing with your SAP development team to implement a custom solution that allows for more flexible handling of long texts.
Related Information:
The error message 40120 is a result of the system's design to prioritize the long text from the master recipe over the order's long text. By reviewing the master recipe, adjusting order type settings, and ensuring proper user training, you can manage this behavior effectively. If necessary, consider custom solutions to better fit your organization's needs.
