  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message 29076 - BOM can only be displayed via configurable material & ?

The SAP error message 29076, which states "BOM can only be displayed via configurable material," typically occurs when you are trying to access a Bill of Materials (BOM) that is associated with a configurable material, but the system is not set up to display it in the way you are attempting.

    Cause:

    1. Configurable Material: The BOM in question is linked to a configurable material (often referred to as a variant material). Configurable materials are used in scenarios where products can be customized based on specific options or features.
    2. Display Method: The error indicates that the BOM cannot be displayed in the standard way because it requires a specific configuration to be selected first. This is because the BOM for configurable materials is not static; it can change based on the configuration chosen.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you should follow these steps:

    1. Use the Correct Transaction: Instead of trying to display the BOM directly, you should use the transaction that allows you to configure the material. This is typically done using transaction codes like:

      • CS03: Display Material BOM (for configurable materials, you may need to enter the configuration).
      • CU50: Configuration of a configurable material.
    2. Select Configuration: When prompted, select the appropriate configuration for the configurable material. This will allow the system to display the BOM that corresponds to the selected configuration.

    3. Check Material Master: Ensure that the material you are trying to display is indeed set up as a configurable material in the material master. You can check this in the material master record (transaction MM03).

    4. Review BOM Settings: If you have access, review the BOM settings in the configuration to ensure that it is correctly set up for the configurable material.

    Related Information:

    • Configurable Materials: These are materials that can be customized based on customer requirements. They are often used in industries like manufacturing, where products can have various options.
    • BOM Types: Understand the different types of BOMs in SAP, such as single-level BOMs, multi-level BOMs, and variant BOMs, as they can affect how you access and display them.
    • SAP Documentation: Refer to SAP Help documentation for more detailed information on handling configurable materials and BOMs.

If you continue to experience issues, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP support team or a functional consultant who specializes in the SAP PP (Production Planning) module.
