This can happen in various scenarios, such as creating a sales order, delivery, or billing document.
Cause:
- Missing Sales Data: The material in question does not have any sales organization data maintained in the material master. This includes information like sales views, pricing, and distribution channels.
- Material Type Restrictions: The material may be of a type that is not intended for sales (e.g., non-stock materials).
- Sales Organization Not Assigned: The sales organization or distribution channel may not be assigned to the material.
- Inactive Material: The material might be flagged as inactive or obsolete in the system.
Solution:
To resolve this error, you need to ensure that the necessary Sales and Distribution data is maintained for the material. Here are the steps to do this:
Check Material Master:
- Go to transaction code

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages
(message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.
An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
